Built circa 1790, located at the corner with Warren Street. 45 Fitzroy Street was known as 10 Upper Fitzroy Street until 1869.
Charles Fitzroy – Statesman & Soldier
Charles Fitzroy, the grandson of the 2nd Duke of Grafton developed the area in the late 18th - early 19th Century, known, as Fitzrovia today.
Born 25th June 1737, joined the 1st Regiment of Foot Guards and rose through the ranks in the army. He later became a Whig and a Conservative Party Member of Parliament. From 1768-1780 he was Queen Charlotte’s Vice-Chamberlain.
